OpenAI’s models are moving into the systems where enterprise work actually happens. In an expanded partnership announced on October 28, 2026, ServiceNow and OpenAI said they are deepening product-level integration between ServiceNow’s workflow platform and ChatGPT and Codex. The centerpiece is a new ServiceNow plugin for ChatGPT, live in the OpenAI marketplace as of the announcement, that lets customers complete governed ServiceNow workflows without leaving a chat conversation.

The announcement builds on the multi-year agreement the two companies struck in January 2026, under which OpenAI’s models, including GPT-5.2, became the preferred intelligence layer for ServiceNow’s AI Platform. This time the integration runs in both directions: OpenAI models and agents move deeper into ServiceNow products, while ServiceNow workflows and context move into ChatGPT and Codex.

What Is Available Now

The ServiceNow MCP plugin is available today in the OpenAI marketplace, according to the companies, with enhanced capabilities expected by the end of 2026. OpenAI describes the integration as bringing business context and workflow actions directly into ChatGPT: an IT team member can find similar incidents, assess the risk of a change and update a ServiceNow record without leaving the conversation. ServiceNow is also previewing interactive experiences in which an on-call engineer reviews linked monitoring alerts, recent changes and affected services, then assigns a team and works toward a fix.

Governance is doing the heavy lifting here. Customers connect ChatGPT to their own ServiceNow instance and select which capabilities to expose, and ServiceNow’s Action Fabric applies existing business rules and permissions, meaning the actions a user can take in ChatGPT depend on their organization’s configuration and access. ServiceNow remains the system where those actions are executed and governed.

The Rollout Roadmap

Beyond the plugin, the companies laid out a timeline of enterprise features running into 2027. Voice-driven governance and risk assessment for ServiceNow’s Super Intelligence Control Tower, using OpenAI voice models, is expected in the first quarter of 2027. OpenAI-powered Security and Risk solutions, built to help teams identify, triage, validate and mitigate enterprise attack paths, enter early access in January 2027 with general availability planned for the second quarter of 2027. A Codex integration in ServiceNow’s AI Workflow Factory, aimed at agentic software development, is expected sometime in 2027.

OpenAI is also joining ServiceNow’s newly announced Control Tower Alliance as a founding member, an ecosystem of AI, security, infrastructure and governance companies meant to help enterprises adopt trusted AI at scale.

Both Companies Adopting at Home

The expansion includes internal deployments on both sides. ServiceNow plans to make ChatGPT Work and Codex available to all employees, expanding access beyond its engineering organization, and says its engineers will use Codex to explore codebases, make changes and run tests. OpenAI said it plans to use ServiceNow across its own operations, supported by the Super Intelligence Control Tower.

“ServiceNow is the Super Intelligence Control Tower that orchestrates, secures, and governs AI across the enterprise,” said ServiceNow chairman and CEO Bill McDermott in the announcement.

Why It Matters

The deal underscores how the enterprise AI battle is being fought over workflows, not just models. ServiceNow already partners with Google Cloud and NVIDIA as part of a multi-model strategy, and Microsoft offers its own ServiceNow connector for Copilot, so OpenAI’s deeper embedding is as much about distribution as technology. For enterprise buyers, the update tightens the coupling between OpenAI’s reasoning and ServiceNow’s workflow engine, and it extends ServiceNow’s reach into OpenAI’s own chat and coding interfaces. No financial terms were disclosed.
