Apple released iOS 27.2 on Monday, October 26, and the headline change is one its assistant has needed for years: Siri AI Memory is here. The update, the first major release for iOS 27, lets Siri recall past conversations, draw on more of the personal context already on the phone, and speak five new languages. Engadget reports the update is rolling out now across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Vision Pro and HomePod.
Memory is the feature that turns an assistant from a voice command tool into something that actually knows its user. Rival chatbots from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google have offered conversation memory for some time. With iOS 27.2, Apple is closing that gap, and pairing the new capability with a single privacy control that lets users decide exactly which apps Siri may learn from.
What Was Announced

The core addition is conversation recall. Siri AI can now remember things it told you before, so you can ask about a restaurant it recommended last week or pick up a thread from an earlier chat instead of starting over. Apple describes the change in its release notes: “This update provides enhancements to Siri AI with the ability to retain useful context from previous Siri interactions as well as draw from a wider range of personal context.”
Memory only helps if Siri has material to work with, so Apple has also widened the pool of sources it can draw on. “Siri AI can draw from more sources to give you a great answer, including photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, your voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List,” Apple says. A new Excluded Apps setting is the counterweight: “Excluded Apps lets you choose which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access, all from one setting.” Users can also select and copy just part of a Siri response, instead of the whole answer, with a new granular text selection option.
The language expansion is just as broad. Siri AI now speaks five new languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, joining English. Apple has said four more, Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese, will follow by the end of 2026. The feature is still marked as beta, and it remains unavailable in the European Union and mainland China.
There is a hardware cut-off. The Siri AI features are available on all iPhone 16 models and later, plus the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Every iPhone that runs iOS 27 gets the other 27.2 changes. The same Siri AI feature set arrives on Apple Watch with watchOS 27.2, while macOS 27.2 brings conversation recall and Suggestions in Messages to the Mac.

Why It Matters
Apple launched Siri AI with iOS 27 on September 14, and this is the first major expansion of the assistant since then. The timing matters because the assistant race is now fought on memory and personal context, not just on answering single questions. An assistant that remembers your restaurant shortlist, your calendar and your voicemails can do genuinely useful work without being asked twice. An assistant that forgets everything after each exchange cannot.
Apple is also drawing a line that its rivals have not. Rather than asking users to trust that a cloud model will handle their messages, photos and voicemails sensibly, it is shipping the memory alongside a single, visible off switch per app. The Excluded Apps setting replaces the old per-app exclusion flow, and it is the clearest signal yet that Apple sees privacy controls, not just capability, as the selling point of its assistant.
The language rollout points the same way. Five languages at once, with four more promised before the year ends, opens the revamped assistant to far more people than the English-only launch did. For a company whose phones sell in every market, a memory that only works in English would have been a half-finished feature.
Beyond Siri AI
iOS 27.2 carries two more AI touches. The Messages app gains Suggested Actions, which recommend a contextual step based on your conversation, such as creating a calendar event or reminder. Photos and Image Playground gain support for Google’s SynthID watermarking, so images created or modified with generative AI can be identified as such. Both land on every supported iPhone, not just the models that get the Siri AI features.
The update is available now through Settings, then General, then Software Update. Apple skipped iOS 27.1 entirely, jumping straight to 27.2 because version 27.1 was reserved for the iPhone Duo foldable, according to Cult of Mac.
