Cody is a business AI platform whose Cody Assist product helps employees and customers find answers in company knowledge. It is designed for questions about policies, products, processes, and support material, with links back to supporting sources. This overview concerns the product from meetcody.ai.

The vendor now distinguishes Assist from Cody Convert, its early-access proactive website agent, and Cody Live, its avatar and live-experience offering. Their purposes and commercial terms differ, so the Assist plans below should not be read as pricing for the whole product family. Cody product overview

How Cody uses your business knowledge

The phrase “trained on your business” needs some explanation. Cody’s help documentation describes splitting uploaded documents into chunks, representing those chunks as embeddings, retrieving relevant passages, and supplying that context to a language model. This is a retrieval-based workflow; uploading a handbook does not establish that a new model is being trained or fine-tuned specifically for your company. How answers are generated

That distinction matters when evaluating results. A useful answer depends on finding the right passage, preserving its context, and interpreting it correctly. A source link makes review easier, but the presence of a citation alone does not establish that an answer is complete or correct.

Main features and suitable uses

According to the Assist product page, businesses can upload documents, connect website content, organize knowledge into folders, and customize assistants with instructions and response styles. Sharing options include links and website embeds. The vendor also describes multilingual questions and answers, internal policy support, troubleshooting from support documentation, and drafting assistance. Cody Assist features

For a small business, the most useful starting point may be one well-defined information problem: helping staff locate an operating procedure or helping customers understand a documented product feature. Broader use should follow evidence that the assistant handles that narrower job reliably.

A practical example: answering a support question

Consider a fictional equipment supplier with installation guides and a troubleshooting FAQ. Its team could prepare an assistant to answer, “What should I check when the status light flashes amber?” This is an illustrative workflow, not a hands-on test or a report of measured performance.

First, the team would remove obsolete instructions and label each guide with the relevant model. Next, it would test questions that mention similar product names, incomplete symptoms, and cases absent from the documentation. Reviewers would compare responses with the source text and record whether the assistant chooses the correct procedure.

When the available documents do not support a conclusion, the desired response should direct the user to support rather than invent a repair. Cody’s help center specifically recommends defining fallback behavior for missing or irrelevant knowledge. Bot fallbacks

Cody Assist pricing and free-plan limits

The public pricing page lists these monthly Assist plans:

  • Free personal plan: 100 credits per month, up to 100 documents, and one website widget; no credit card required.
  • Basic: US$29 per month, 2,500 monthly credits, three team members, and 1,000 documents. Automatic website sync is excluded.
  • Premium: US$99 per month, 10,000 monthly credits, ten team members, 10,000 documents and 10,000 website pages, with automatic sync for three websites.
  • Advanced: US$249 per month, 25,000 monthly credits, 30 team members, 25,000 website pages, and automatic sync for nine websites.

Paid plans include widget customization and API access. Credits measure usage; consumption depends on the model and query, so a credit allowance should not be presented as a guaranteed number of conversations. Official pricing

Cody’s terms specify U.S. dollars and say taxes are excluded unless otherwise stated. Users must be at least 18, and creating multiple accounts to collect additional free-tier credits is prohibited. Fees and free-tier terms

Free accounts also need ongoing activity. The help center says a bot must be used at least once every 60 days; otherwise, the account is scheduled for deletion, with advance email notices. Free-account activity requirements

Data handling and limitations to check

Cody’s published terms say it does not use customer content to improve its services. An older security guide describes sending relevant document excerpts to a model provider and says API data is not used for model training. These are vendor statements with different dates and scopes; confirm the current arrangements for the models and deployment you intend to use. Terms · Security guide

The published subprocessor list includes hosting, AI, database, and support providers. The privacy policy describes sharing personal information with service providers and transferring it to the United States. Avoid assuming that all processing stays within your organization. Before uploading sensitive records, establish which data is necessary, who may access each assistant, and what retention and deletion terms apply. Keep internal material separate from content approved for customers. Start an evaluation with non-sensitive documents and verify access boundaries before widening the audience.

Is Cody Assist a good fit?

Cody Assist is worth considering when a team has maintained reference material and recurring questions that can be answered from it. The evaluation should focus on correct source selection, useful handling of uncertainty, and the effort needed to keep documents current.

Keep people responsible for consequential decisions and unusual cases. A successful pilot is one that gives your team evidence of reliable help on its own material, within an acceptable usage budget, rather than one that merely produces fluent replies.
