Nvidia is in talks to provide billions of dollars in credit guarantees for debt tied to a data center that Anthropic plans to use, according to a new report, in a move that would deepen the chipmaker’s financial entanglement with the cloud providers powering the AI buildout. The Information reported Thursday, citing people with knowledge of the discussions, that the guarantees would help fund a 460-megawatt facility at Nscale’s Monarch campus in West Virginia, with nothing signed and terms that could still change.
What Was Announced?
The reported talks would see Nvidia back Nscale’s borrowing for a second building at the Monarch campus dedicated to Anthropic capacity, running on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chips, Reuters reported in its pickup of The Information’s story. The size of the credit support has not been disclosed. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report.
The facility sits at the center of a roughly $45 billion computing agreement between Anthropic and Nscale. Bloomberg reported earlier this month that the two companies were in late-stage talks on the deal, and filings tied to Nscale’s planned IPO show existing Anthropic infrastructure commitments of close to $45 billion. Anthropic’s own S-1 filing puts its Nscale GPU services agreements at a cap of approximately $44.6 billion, with terms extending into 2033.

How the Deal Fits Together
The West Virginia site has an unusual history. Anthropic took over the Monarch campus location after Microsoft withdrew from a preliminary letter of intent it had signed in March, according to InvestingLive’s summary of the reporting. Nscale, a young AI cloud provider, filed publicly for a US initial public offering in September targeting a valuation of about $30 billion, and recently closed a pre-IPO funding round of about $3.4 billion led by Third Point, with Nvidia among the investors.
This would not be Nvidia’s first time backstopping Nscale’s finances. Around October 2025, the chipmaker guaranteed approximately $860 million of Nscale’s lease obligations in Texas, tied to a site with 240 to 275 megawatts of IT load. Nscale’s S-1 filing also outlined Nvidia’s efforts to lower the cloud provider’s financing costs through various guarantees tied to exclusive use of its hardware. In August 2026, Nscale closed nearly $3 billion in senior secured delayed-draw term loan facilities to fund specific GPU deployments, rated investment grade.
The scale of Nscale’s ambitions shows up in its IPO paperwork: the filing disclosed approximately $103.4 billion in total contracted value as of September 18, 2026, against active revenue of around $2.6 billion, a gap that explains why the company needs massive new construction and financing to deliver on its commitments.

Why It Matters
If agreed, the guarantees would give Nvidia three roles in the same deal chain: chip supplier, equity investor in the cloud provider, and backer of its debt. That structure has already drawn scrutiny. In September, Anthropic signed a $35 billion compute deal with Lambda, another Nvidia-backed cloud provider, and critics argued Nvidia was effectively underwriting demand for its own chips. Nvidia’s finance chief has pushed back on that framing, Crypto Briefing noted.
The pattern is now hard to ignore. Nvidia’s capital, guarantees, and hardware are woven through the biggest neocloud deals of the cycle, which means the company’s fortunes are increasingly tied to whether these customers can convert contracted value into paying workloads. The Nscale talks, if they become a signed commitment, will be the latest test of how far that financing flywheel can spin.
