CiteLLM checks AI answers against your PDFs, linking every claim to the exact highlighted passage. It appeared on Show HN on October 31, 2026, and this post is based on its official website, checked on November 1, 2026.
What CiteLLM does
You bring your documents and ask questions, check claims, or extract data. Every answer, claim, or extracted value links to the exact passage in your original PDF, so a reviewer can open the source page and see the supporting text highlighted. Results are marked supported, contradicted, or missing against the document, then approved or flagged in a human-in-the-loop review, and exported as an evidence report recording who approved what.
The official site demonstrates it on a 2025 10-K: “which product category grew fastest” returns the answer with the page number and the highlighted table row. Beyond one-off checks, CiteLLM offers document search and question answering across a collection, structured field extraction with a source for every value, a plugin for ChatGPT and Claude, a web app set up for your team, and an API.
Security
Built for regulated teams, CiteLLM never uses your documents for training, files are deleted after processing unless you choose to keep them, and you can self-host with Docker in your own environment.
Who it is for
CiteLLM suits finance, legal, insurance, and real estate teams that must show an auditor where every number came from: contract reviewers, analysts citing filings, and anyone whose AI answers need evidence attached before they can be trusted.
Pricing
CiteLLM does not publish pricing on its official website. The web app is set up on request, the plugin works with ChatGPT and Claude, and an API and Docker self-hosting are available. Prices may change, so check the official website for the latest pricing: https://citellm.com/.
