xAI is turning Grok Bot into a far more capable phone assistant. The company announced on October 22 that Grok Bot can now connect directly to core apps on your phone, including Calendar, Reminders, Contacts and Messages, along with location-based search and smart home controls. The update is rolling out now on both iOS and Android, according to Digital Trends and TeslaNorth, which reported on the official @bot announcement.

“Grok Bot can now use Calendar, Reminders, Contacts, and more apps on your phone. Rolling out now on iOS and Android,” the official @bot account posted, alongside an image showing the new permissions screen.

What the update adds

The integration covers six apps and services. Grok Bot can read your calendar to summarize your day and add new events, create and check reminders, look up existing contacts and add new ones, and read and send messages. With location access it can suggest nearby places, and through the Home app it can control connected smart home devices, so asking it to switch off the lights or lock the front door no longer means opening a separate app.

This is the kind of feature that turns an AI chatbot into a proper assistant. Instead of switching between apps to add a meeting or set a reminder, users can ask Grok Bot in conversation and let it handle the rest.

Permissions, app by app

Notably, access is opt-in for each app. Every integration has its own Allow toggle, so a user could let Grok Bot manage reminders while keeping it away from messages. That granular control matters, because an assistant that can read conversations and unlock doors is asking for a lot of trust.

Still, questions remain. Softonic notes that xAI has not shared much publicly about how data from these connected apps is stored or kept separate, and that reports of a persistent shared cloud computer across bots raise real security questions around files, browser sessions and logged-in accounts. Anyone weighing the trade-off will want those answers before granting full access.

A fast-moving week for Grok Bot

The update caps an active stretch for the app. Earlier in the week, Grok Bot gained the option to start a voice conversation from the iPhone Action Button and arrived on Apple CarPlay, joining assistants such as ChatGPT and Perplexity on the car dashboard. TeslaNorth also reports xAI showed the bot handling X direct messages and working as the default Android assistant.

Grok Bot launched in beta on August 11, 2026, and is available on iPhone and Android through paid offerings, including SuperGrok and some Cursor tiers, per Softonic. Each step, from voice shortcuts to deep phone integrations, has moved it further from a chatbot you visit and closer to something that runs in the background of your day.
