Updated October 16, 2026. This guide is based on Proofademic’s public product documentation and policies. We did not run scans, test an account or independently measure detection accuracy.
Proofademic is a web-based service for reviewing possible AI-written text in essays, papers and other documents. Its AI text detector provides a document estimate and sentence-level signals. It is intended to support a human review; a score cannot establish authorship or academic misconduct.
What Proofademic offers
- Passage-level review: Sentence-level detection highlights writing for closer inspection. The vendor also documents PDF reports and links for sharing results.
- Source comparison: The plagiarism checker surfaces matching passages, sources and risk classifications. This addresses source overlap, while AI detection estimates writing patterns. Correctly cited quotations can produce matches; a low similarity result cannot certify originality.
- Rewritten-text screening: Paraphrase Shield is advertised as part of every plan, applied during ordinary scans. It looks for AI-like patterns after rewriting. Treat this as a feature description, without assuming it catches every humanized passage.
- Multiple documents: Batch Scan accepts PDF, DOCX and TXT files and produces separate reports. Its page lists access on Essential, Premium and Professional, subject to plan allowances and request limits.
- Language coverage: The multilingual page advertises 23 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Chinese and Vietnamese, with automatic language identification. Check the published list for your language; supported-language coverage does not establish equal accuracy across languages.
Pricing and submission limits
The public pricing page, viewed in USD with monthly billing displayed on October 16, 2026, lists:
- Essential: US$15 per month, with 200,000 words per month.
- Premium: US$25 per month, with 400,000 words per month.
- Professional: US$45 per month, with 600,000 words per month.
The detector’s FAQ separately lists per-request limits of 3,500, 8,000 and 25,000 words, respectively. A monthly allowance is therefore not the maximum length of one submission.
Check the free-access expiry: The homepage describes a one-time 1,000-word allowance without a credit card; the pricing page calls the 1,000-word offer a three-day trial. A one-time allowance can still expire; confirm the applicable deadline during signup. The figures above are advertised plan prices, not verified per-seat quotes or tax-inclusive totals. Annual checkout totals, local taxes and institutional seat terms were not verified.
The subscription terms state that plans renew automatically and cancellation stops future charges. The vendor’s stated policy makes purchases non-refundable. Read the terms and final billing screen before paying.
Accuracy evidence and limits
Proofademic’s May 20, 2026 study is the company’s own evaluation. Its summary and evaluation table report inconsistent false-positive figures, so seek clarification before relying on the benchmark rates. The study restricts its findings to English, uses artificially combined documents for mixed-authorship testing, and excludes humanizer-modified text.
Those boundaries matter when evaluating a multilingual or heavily edited submission. We have not independently reproduced the study. Neither a favorable benchmark nor an individual scan should become a guarantee that a student cheated, that text is entirely human-written, or that every citation is correct.
A practical review workflow
- Establish the rules first. Write down which AI assistance the assignment or publication permits, and what evidence a reviewer may consider. Apply the same process consistently.
- Choose a suitable document. Use material you are authorized to submit. Keep a copy of the original, its references and available drafting history. Check length and language before spending credits.
- Inspect the passages. Use the report to locate text for a closer reading, following the vendor’s sentence-review guidance. Examine surrounding paragraphs and cited material rather than reacting to the headline percentage.
- Record a human explanation. Note what you checked, what remains uncertain and what additional context is needed. Discuss relevant passages with the writer before deciding whether further review is justified.
Example: a literature assignment
Imagine a university instructor reviewing a 1,800-word essay. In this invented scenario, several sentences receive stronger AI-like signals. No actual Proofademic scan was performed, and no score is being reported.
The instructor checks those sentences against the assigned readings, asks the writer to explain one interpretation and compares the available outline with the final text. A citation problem can then be addressed directly. If the evidence remains inconclusive, the instructor records that uncertainty and follows the institution’s review process rather than treating the imagined flags as a finding.
Privacy and handling submitted work
The privacy policy, updated August 20, 2026, says submitted content is not used for model training or resale. It also describes U.S. hosting, sharing with service providers and other specified recipients, and retention for as long as necessary for its stated purposes. It does not give a fixed document-deletion timetable. These are the vendor’s policy statements, not an independent security audit.
Before uploading confidential research or identifiable student work, confirm permission, retention settings and any institutional data agreement. Remove unnecessary personal information. Check report-sharing access before creating a link.
Availability and who should consider it
Proofademic’s current homepage advertises browser-based text review and text/image detection APIs. It labels the consumer browser image detector and grammar checker as coming soon, and LMS integrations as planned. Do not assume those planned features are included in an account today. Native mobile or desktop app availability was not verified for this guide.
For an educator or editor, the useful question is whether passage-level review fits an existing, fair review process. For a student, retaining drafts and documenting allowed AI assistance remains sensible regardless of any detector result. Start with non-sensitive sample material, assess the report’s usefulness and verify the plan conditions before committing.
