Historical article, updated October 15, 2026. Originally published February 24, 2025. This update explains the product’s discontinued status using official documentation. It is not a new hands-on review.
Status: Discontinued. Humane AI Pin was a wearable assistant. Its calling, messaging and AI features depended on services covered by Humane’s official shutdown notice.

What the Humane AI Pin was designed to do
Ai Pin attached to clothing with a magnetic Battery Booster, typically near the collarbone. Humane’s setup guide described a wearable interface combining a touchpad, spoken requests and a projection onto the user’s hand. Using the microphone involved pressing and holding the touchpad, speaking, then releasing it. These are historical operating instructions, not a setup path for a newly acquired device today.
The distinctive display was called Laser Ink. Rather than opening a conventional screen, the wearer raised a hand in front of the device. Humane documented gestures for selecting an item, moving through menus and returning to a previous display. Its Laser Ink guide also described reviewing messages and image previews. That explains the product’s interaction design without implying those connected functions remain available.
Humane’s Ai Mic documentation listed calls, messages, music, lists, image capture and information requests among its functions. It also described follow-up questions and referring to saved notes. Those documented capabilities provide a narrower, more reliable historical description than broad promises of an all-purpose lifestyle assistant. They do not establish response accuracy, speed or reliability in everyday use.
The shutdown date and its practical meaning
Humane specified February 28, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. PST as the cutoff for server connections and .Center access. That is 20:00 UTC on February 28, or 03:00 on March 1, 2025 in Vietnam. The notice said calling, messaging, AI queries and responses, and cloud access would cease. Losing those services removed the device’s core everyday uses.
The consumer FAQ allowed for limited offline functions such as displaying battery level. It said another cellular provider would not restore calls, texts or data. A unit powering on therefore does not demonstrate that the original assistant service works.
What happened to accounts and stored data
Humane asked owners to download photos, videos and notes before the cutoff, when it said remaining consumer data would be permanently deleted. That historical export window has passed. Individual account deletions were not independently verified for this article.
Humane’s FAQ said subscriptions would be canceled automatically, with prorated refunds for prepaid months beyond the shutdown. It also said consumer support would end after February 28, 2025 and offered no subscription transfer to another device. Its device-refund process had a February 27, 2025 submission deadline and limited eligibility. Those published deadlines should not be presented as a refund offer available today.
How HP’s acquisition fits into the history
On February 18, 2025, HP announced an agreement worth $116 million to acquire Humane’s Cosmos platform, technical talent and intellectual property, including more than 300 patents and patent applications. The release said the team would form HP IQ, focused on AI experiences across HP products and services. At publication, HP expected the transaction to close at the end of that month.
That announcement documented an investment in technology and people. It did not promise to keep Ai Pin consumer accounts operating, restore .Center or support existing devices. Readers should distinguish the future use of Humane’s technology within HP from the separate shutdown instructions issued to Ai Pin customers.
A safety detail for anyone keeping the hardware
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Charge Case Accessory recall notice identifies an overheating and fire hazard. Its June 2, 2025 update says the remedy is no longer available. Owners should stop using the recalled case and follow municipal procedures for damaged, defective or recalled lithium batteries. The notice warns against household trash and ordinary retail battery collection boxes. This recall covers the Charge Case Accessory, not the Ai Pin, Battery Boosters or Charge Pad. An older page offering a replacement or refund should not be treated as the current remedy.
How to read older Ai Pin coverage
The original February 24, 2025 publication date falls before the announced shutdown. Historical feature descriptions explain the product during its operating period. The dated update at the top of this page makes the later change in status explicit.
This page preserves the device’s historical context without a purchase recommendation. The documented touchpad activation method describes how the microphone was used; it does not establish that AI processing happened entirely on the device. Any assessment of a different product needs its own evidence, rather than assumptions carried over from the Ai Pin’s former feature list.
