Tencent has previewed the upcoming general release of its Hy4 model and Hy4 Flash at the 2026 Tencent Global Digital Ecosystem Summit, unveiling the next generation of its Hunyuan AI models alongside enterprise capabilities for its WorkBuddy office agent, according to an official company announcement on October 30.
Hy4 is set to deliver enhanced performance on long-horizon and real-world productivity tasks, with higher reasoning efficiency and visual understanding introduced for the first time. Hy4 Flash is positioned as a cost-effective alternative that carries over Hy4’s visual understanding and agentic capabilities. Enterprises will be able to access the Hy models alongside leading third-party models through Tencent Cloud’s TokenHub, a unified platform with a single API for choosing models by performance and cost and managing access, usage, governance and billing in one place.

What Was Announced?
The announcement came from Tencent’s Cloud and Smart Industries Group at the Shenzhen summit, where senior executive vice president Dowson Tong framed the release around practical deployment. “AI is creating new opportunities for businesses, but its real value comes when it can be applied to everyday operations and adopted at scale,” Tong said. “At Tencent Cloud, we’re bringing together our AI models, tools such as WorkBuddy and cloud infrastructure to help more businesses put AI to work.”
Tencent says it co-designs its models with its AI products and applications to achieve what it calls practical AI, and that Hy4’s general release is coming soon. The company did not disclose benchmark scores, pricing or an exact release date in the announcement.
WorkBuddy: Enterprise Agent at Scale
Alongside the model preview, Tencent detailed the enterprise reach of WorkBuddy, its AI office productivity agent. Since launching in March, WorkBuddy has handled more than nine billion task requests, with adoption spanning more than 50 industries and 50% of China’s top 500 enterprises. Its ecosystem now includes over 50,000 developers and partners and more than 200,000 skills.
Tencent is expanding WorkBuddy for international enterprises, connecting it with widely used messaging applications and enterprise systems so teams can work inside the tools they already use. Customers can choose the AI model that best fits each task, with built-in security controls for enterprise use. In China, Tencent also introduced Buddy One, a cross-application collaboration system that lets WorkBuddy coordinate tasks across Tencent’s office applications and specialized business agents.
The company has launched CodeBuddy, WorkBuddy, Miora, the Agent Development Platform (ADP), MAGIC AI and Agent Runtime internationally, positioning Chinese and international teams on the same AI workbench.

Why It Matters
The Hy4 preview matters on two fronts. Technically, it signals that Tencent is racing to add visual understanding and stronger agentic capabilities to its flagship model line, the same direction being taken by the latest releases from US and Chinese rivals. Commercially, the announcement is packaged as an international growth story: Tencent Cloud’s active overseas customer base doubled over the past year, and its international AI business has posted triple-digit growth, driven by demand for agentic solutions.
Tencent Cloud now serves customers in more than 150 countries and regions, and says nine out of ten Chinese internet companies expanding globally use its cloud. The company expanded infrastructure capacity in 2026 across Frankfurt, Osaka, Riyadh, Malaysia, Mexico and Thailand, and now spans 25 cloud regions and 70 availability zones. New summit partnerships include Alsaif Gallery, Hoolive, OmniOps and TruKKer in the Middle East, plus Infosys Solusi Terpadu and Central Retail Digital in other markets.
The launch sets up Hy4 to compete in an increasingly crowded flagship-model race, but the details that will determine its standing, such as benchmark results and pricing, are still to come.
