SoBrief AI is a book-discovery and summary service with text and audio formats. It can help you preview a subject, revisit a book’s main ideas or choose what to read next. A summary is a condensed interpretation, however, rather than the complete book or its audiobook. It leaves out material and may contain errors; reading one does not establish that you have read or understood the original.
What You Can Do with SoBrief
The official website offers fiction and nonfiction browsing, recommendations, saved books and reading history. It advertises audio, translations in more than 40 languages, and PDF or EPUB summary downloads for offline reading. Check that a particular title and format are available before paying. Offline reading downloads do not automatically establish offline audio support.
Catalog figures differ across official channels: the website currently advertises 26,000-plus summaries, while the US App Store description still lists 73,530. We have not independently counted available titles. Likewise, a promotional ten-minute reading estimate is not a guarantee of duration, comprehension or the depth of coverage.
A Practical Way to Use a Summary
Suppose you are choosing a nonfiction book for a reading group. Here is a suggested evaluation exercise, not a session we tested:
- Start with a question. Decide what the group wants to discuss, such as how an author supports a central argument.
- Preview the summary. Note two interesting ideas and any claims that seem surprising or incomplete.
- Check the original. Use an authorized copy or publisher’s sample to inspect the relevant passage. Distinguish the author’s words from the summary’s paraphrase.
- Choose the next step. Read the full book if its evidence, narrative or writing style matters to your discussion. A short overview cannot reproduce those experiences.
- Keep your notes honest. Label notes taken from a summary as such. Do not invent page references or present generated wording as a quotation from the author.
For fiction, previews can disclose plot developments. If you prefer to avoid spoilers, start with a publisher’s description rather than a detailed recap. For academic work, follow the assignment’s source requirements and consult the original text when it is required.
Free Access and Paid Plans
The pricing page, checked October 17, 2026, displays $9.99 monthly, $44.99 yearly and $79.99 lifetime. The annual amount is a yearly payment, not a $3.75 monthly subscription. Dollar currency code, tax treatment and your checkout offer should be confirmed before purchase.
Free allowances are inconsistent: the main pricing section lists 10 bookmarks and 10 history entries, while the shared comparison lists four of each, three summaries per month and one download. Do not assume unlimited free reading or a monthly reset for every allowance.
Promotional panels also show $59.99 lifetime and discounted first-year offers. One annual discount starts payment immediately; another includes a three-day trial before billing. These are distinct offers, not a promise that every purchase has a free trial. Confirm the initial payment, renewal amount, cancellation deadline and purchase channel on the selected offer. No checkout was completed for this review.
Refunds and Mobile Availability
The current refund page describes a 30-calendar-day request window, including renewals, with exclusions for misuse, suspended accounts and bank or currency-exchange fees. Web purchases use its request process; App Store refunds must be requested through Apple. An older footer label saying seven days should not replace the actual policy. Cancellation and a refund request are separate actions.
The official app page presents iPhone/iPad and Android options, plus Android web-app installation. We verified the US Apple listing, which requires iOS or iPadOS 17.5 or later and currently carries an 18+ age rating. Android store availability and regional billing were not independently verified. Store offers can differ from website offers.
Privacy and Content Rights
SoBrief’s privacy policy, updated August 4, 2026, says reading preferences, interactions and demographic information are sent to OpenAI, Anthropic and Google for recommendations. Support messages are processed by Anthropic. It says these providers do not train their models on that data; this is a provider disclosure, not an independent audit or a promise that no information leaves SoBrief.
The policy also describes cookies, usage data and service-provider sharing. It says the website is not intended for children under 13; that is separate from the Apple listing’s 18+ content rating. No specific general retention period was established in the policy reviewed. Avoid putting private personal details into recommendations or support messages unnecessarily.
The terms reserve rights in original site content and give SoBrief a broad licence over content users submit. They do not establish that a subscription lets you republish summaries, covers or book text. We did not verify publisher licences for individual titles. Check the applicable permissions before redistributing downloaded material.
Who It May Suit
SoBrief may suit readers looking for previews and reminders who will check important details against the original. It is less suitable if you need complete arguments, precise quotations or a substitute for assigned reading.
