Shortcut Excel AI, now branded Shortcut, is a spreadsheet and financial-work agent from Fundamental Research Labs. It accepts natural-language requests to build or edit workbooks, organize data, and help prepare analysis. The current product includes an Excel add-in, a web workspace, desktop and command-line tools, and an API.

The earlier waitlist-only description is no longer current. Shortcut now publishes free and paid plans on its official pricing page. Its former tryshortcut.ai address redirects to shortcut.ai.

Choose the right Shortcut interface

The product documentation distinguishes four ways to use the agent:

  • Excel add-in: works in the open workbook. It cannot run VBA; the original workbook retains its macros, while copies exported for processing are macro-free .xlsx files.
  • Web app: works with uploaded spreadsheets in a browser without requiring Excel. It does not run inside desktop Excel or execute macros.
  • CLI and desktop: can work with local files and tools. The deepest Excel and Office capabilities require Windows with desktop Office; access to each file location requires permission.
  • Platform API: runs asynchronous spreadsheet jobs in an isolated cloud environment using supplied inputs. It is not control of the caller’s desktop Excel session.

These products share an account, but their access and capabilities differ. Choose based on where your workbook lives and whether it depends on macros, local connections, or Excel-specific behavior.

Features and practical uses

Shortcut’s current positioning emphasizes financial research, model construction, and analysis, with links from work to source files and support for producing documents and presentations. The original use cases remain useful: forecasts, scenario models, sales reporting, business dashboards, and research-data organization. Treat these as tasks to evaluate, rather than a promise that any workbook will be completed correctly.

A clear request might be: “Use the supplied monthly sales table to create a quarterly summary and a chart. Keep the original data unchanged, identify missing values, and explain every assumption.” For a financial model, specify the units, dates, source documents, formulas to preserve, and checks the result must pass.

Plans, credits, and billing

The prices below reflect the configurations selected on the public page. Dollar amounts are reproduced as displayed; confirm currency, tax, and the total billing commitment at checkout.

Plan Monthly billing Annual billing display Selected allowance
Free $0 Free 20 free credits per week
Pro $125 per month $100 per month equivalent, billed annually 1,000 monthly plan credits selected
Teams $400 per month, plus $125 per seat per month $320 per month equivalent, plus $100 per seat per month equivalent, billed annually 1,000 monthly pooled team credits selected
Enterprise Custom quote Custom quote Negotiated deployment, support, and controls

Pro and Teams have configurable credit selectors, so these are not universal prices for every allowance. Annual billing does not turn the selected monthly credits into an annual pool: the page says credits refresh monthly. It estimates typical messages at 2–15 credits, depending on complexity. Teams adds shared resources, usage analytics, and centralized management; Enterprise advertises controls such as SSO and a private gateway.

What to check before relying on an output

  1. Start with a copy of a non-sensitive workbook and a small, verifiable task.
  2. Check formulas, references, totals, date interpretation, units, and missing-data handling.
  3. Test charts, formatting, macros, external links, and export behavior in your chosen interface.
  4. Review data-sharing permissions and your organization’s rules before connecting work files.
  5. Compare credit consumption and review time with the time the task actually saves.

There is no basis here for a guarantee of flawless execution, perfect file integrity, or a fixed speed advantage. This overview uses public documentation; no workbook, paid plan, or benchmark was tested. Sources checked: October 20, 2026. Browse related AI agents.
