Updated October 15, 2026. Fathom.fm was introduced as an AI-assisted podcast player for finding conversations and relevant moments inside episodes. Its company-issued announcements document a real podcast-discovery product, including an iPhone app. However, we could not verify a working current service or download during this review. Treat the feature descriptions below as historical documentation rather than a promise of present access.
Historical Fathom.fm homepage image retained from the original listing. Its old app-download button and promotional text do not confirm current availability, features, or a hands-on GPTOnline test.
Current availability
On October 15, 2026, both hello.fathom.fm, the website linked from this listing, and fathom.fm returned gateway errors in our browser check. The historical US App Store link displayed Apple’s page-not-found message. These observations limit what we can recommend today.
We did not find an official closure announcement in the sources reviewed. A failed website request and an unavailable regional store page do not establish why access has changed, whether the interruption is temporary, or whether an app remains available elsewhere. The appropriate status is current availability unverified. Readers who need a podcast research tool immediately should confirm a working service before building a workflow around it.
What Fathom.fm offered
The company’s June 2022 launch announcement described natural-language questions that returned short podcast-audio highlights, recommendations based on topics discussed, and personalized previews. It also described following shows and saving episodes, with access on iPhone and the web. The proposed benefit was finding relevant speech inside audio instead of choosing an episode solely from its title.
A January 2023 company announcement documented these additions:
- Transcripts: AI-generated episode text that listeners could browse.
- Chapters: Navigation using publisher-provided chapters or dynamically generated topic sections.
- Custom clips: Saving and sharing selected moments, with AI-assisted clip boundaries.
- Listening controls: Episode downloads, a sleep feature, notifications, and easier access to unfinished episodes.
- Personalized feeds: Custom collections of highlights for discovery.
These are dated vendor descriptions. We did not test transcription accuracy, relevance, playback, clipping, downloads, or whether any of these functions still operate.
Coverage needs checking
Neither announcement provides a dependable current inventory of searchable shows, supported languages, or processing delays. We therefore cannot promise complete transcripts for every podcast, instant indexing of newly released episodes, or support for private and paid feeds. Natural-language search also should not be described as real-time access to every conversation.
For a specific research project, check the exact show and episode before assuming coverage. Finding a show’s name in a directory would not, by itself, prove that its full audio is transcribed or searchable. Likewise, an absent search result would not prove that nobody discussed the topic. Keep the publisher’s episode page and original audio available for verification.
A discovery example
Fictional, untested scenario: Maya runs a community theater and wants to hear how other organizers coordinate volunteer schedules. She remembers a useful discussion but has forgotten the podcast’s name. This illustrates a discovery workflow inspired by the documented concept; it is not a demonstration of working Fathom.fm results.
- Frame the question. Start with a focused query such as, “How do small theaters organize volunteer shifts?” Then try a narrower phrase if the results are too broad.
- Check the context. If relevant audio appears, identify the show, guest, episode date, and surrounding discussion. A short highlight may leave out the conditions behind a recommendation.
- Keep a source trail. Record the original episode URL and timestamp in your own notes. Distinguish what the speaker actually said from your interpretation.
- Verify before quoting. Listen to the original passage, including the sentences before and after it. Use a transcript as a navigation aid and check names or numbers against the recording.
Maya’s goal would be a small, traceable listening list. A persuasive snippet alone would not establish that the speaker’s approach fits her theater.
Platforms and pricing
Historical documentation supports iPhone and browser access at launch. Current iOS installation, operating-system requirements, Android availability, and supported desktop browsers were not verified. The old US listing should be treated as a reference link rather than an assured download.
We also could not verify a current official pricing page, free allowance, subscription, or premium tier. Current prices and plan entitlements remain unverified. If access returns, check the actual payment terms and feature limits before signing up.
Privacy and product identity
A current Fathom.fm privacy policy was not available in the material we could verify. Data retention, account deletion, training use, and sharing controls therefore remain unconfirmed here. Review those terms before connecting an account or providing information, and avoid sending confidential material when the handling rules are unclear.
This page covers the podcast product associated with fathom.fm. GPTOnline’s separate Fathom meeting-assistant listing concerns the similarly named meeting tool. Its plans, integrations, and privacy statements should not be applied to this podcast service.
Bottom line
Fathom.fm has documented historical features for exploring podcast audio. Its present usefulness cannot be established from those announcements alone. This update preserves that history while making the access, coverage, pricing, and privacy gaps explicit. No account was created, no audio was uploaded, and no product performance test was conducted.
