Updated on October 20, 2026.

Featured image: screenshot of the ThatNeedle company homepage, captured October 20, 2026. The former Gist address redirects here; this is not a screenshot of a current Gist extension. Performance figures and ChatGPT comparisons shown are untested provider claims. Editorial identification only; no hands-on test.

ThatNeedle AI in this listing refers to ThatNeedle Gist, the YouTube-summary browser extension, rather than every product sold under the ThatNeedle company name. The original review described quick summaries, translated transcripts and a Chrome workflow for researching videos.

Availability check, October 20, 2026: the former Gist address now redirects to the main ThatNeedle company website. The live browser displayed a general NLP and real-time-systems presentation rather than the dedicated Gist interface. That redirect does not establish that Gist has been renamed, that the extension remains installable, or that the new homepage supplies the former summarizer. The official Chrome Web Store route led to a Google sign-in page in this browser, so installation availability could not be verified without signing in. No login was attempted; current pricing is also unconfirmed.

What ThatNeedle Gist was designed to do

The historical product description focused on reading the main points of a YouTube video before watching it in full. Its advertised workflow combined a short summary with transcript access, transcript download or export, and language translation. Students could preview a lecture, researchers could assess a video’s relevance, and language learners could compare a summary against the original speech. These are descriptions of the earlier offering, not results from a new hands-on test.

ThatNeedle’s still-accessible NLP-library page separately lists a Gist API for YouTube summaries and describes a standalone Chrome extension. This supports the historical product connection, but does not by itself verify a working installation or API subscription today.

Do not confuse the extension with the NLP libraries

The same official page markets offline libraries for C++ and Python, with Java described as forthcoming. Those are separate developer products. Their offline-processing description should not be applied to Gist’s online YouTube-summary service. Likewise, the old listing’s hourly consulting quote was not the price of a Gist subscription.

Price and privacy limitations

The earlier listing called Gist free and said it did not require an account or personal API key. Those conditions are retained here as historical context only; no current free allowance, paid plan, renewal term or API rate was verified. Avoid relying on the former consulting rate as a current quotation.

The company’s published terms and privacy statements describe Gist as using the submitted YouTube URL rather than collecting a user’s browsing history, and reserve the ability to impose fair-use limits. These are provider statements, not a fresh technical privacy audit or a promise of unlimited use.

Before using a summarizer

Confirm that any extension listing identifies the correct developer and review its requested permissions. Do not install a similarly named extension or a third-party download simply because the original product link has changed. For important research, check the full video, transcript and original sources; a summary may omit qualifications, mistranscribe names or mistranslate a speaker’s meaning.

This listing preserves the earlier Gist identity while making the present availability gap explicit. The former feature set, desktop-web access and mobile-app status should not be treated as verified current capabilities.
